“Daily News: AG Schneiderman Blasts Arizona Drug Company for Downplaying Risks of Cancer Painkiller”

An Arizona pharmaceutical company has been recklessly hawking its cancer painkiller drug to a bigger market without a care for the addiction risks of its powerful opioid, according to New York State prosecutors.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s Thursday lawsuit says Insys Therapeutics downplayed the risks of its under-the-tongue spray, bribed doctors and lied to healthcare providers — all so it could fatten its bottom line.
The Manhattan Supreme Court case aims to make the company cough up some $75 million in revenue that, Schneiderman argued, was illegally earned.
“Insys showed a wanton disregard for the law and the lives of New Yorkers and we will hold them accountable,” he said.
The action is the latest legal salvo by officials across the state.
A week ago, New York City announced a lawsuit against drug makers it says are fanning the opioid epidemic.
A number of counties statewide are also pressing similar suits against Big Pharma.
An Insys Therapeutics rep did not immediately comment on the lawsuit.
